Why do I have to create an account?
Before you start using Lima, we require you to create an account to protect your documents. Getting an account will also allow you to:
- secure the communication between your devices
- add/remove devices
Which type of information goes through Lima servers? Why?
Lima uses an authentication server to verify that you’re the only one able to access your account. This server provides access to your account once you’re identified.
How secure is my Lima account?
When we designed Lima, privacy was one of our main concerns.
Lima uses asymmetric cryptography. When Lima is installed, the application generates a RSA-2048 pair of keys, identifiable by the user's email, and whose private key is protected by the user password. This private key, which is what identifies you in the system, is stored in your Lima and your devices.
We don't know this key because we don't have your password. Only your Lima stores your true identity, saved safely in its internal memory, so it is safe as long as your Lima is safe at home. An AES key is derived from the RSA-2048 keys and will be used to encrypt your files. The file protection also relies on the same system, which has been used safely and securely for decades. When you want to access your files from the Web, we'll ask Lima if you're really you: we're just a third-party, and will act as the relay so you can connect.
